St Francis at the Engine Room opened in Tottenham Hale today. It is a brand new Church of England church. It is the first purpose built Anglican Church to open in the Diocese of London in 40 years.
The new church has a worship space, a community centre and a cafe. Its congregation was started in 2013. Martina Kwapong, a community worker at St Francis’s, said:
St. Francis at the Engine Room has become a busy place for making friends and exploring each other’s cultures and faith. A vibrant community is growing together here, and we are making a unique contribution to life in Tottenham.
The Diocese of London plans to open 100 new worshipping communities by 2020. To find out more about the Diocese’s aims for 2020 please visit the Capital Vision 2020 news section on the diocesan website.
Established in Anglo-Saxon times, St Laurence’s is one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of London. Nobody knows for sure when St Laurence’s doors first opened. You can read more about the history of St Laurence Cowley on the British History Online website.
